AWAKEN LIVING THINKING

A Transformative Waldorf Teacher Training with Michael D’Aleo

Join Michael D’Aleo, educator, scientist, and pioneer of Teaching Sensible Science, for a six day immersion into Living Thinking, perceptive awareness, and the art of teaching middle school science the Waldorf way.

The sciences in education are unique in their opportunity to develop a conscious awareness between perceiving and thinking. At an age of growing sense of self, how can we use the sciences to become aware beyond the self and more fully awaken to the living relationships that are experienced truthfully around us? Through a combination of living experiences and guided discussion, each teacher will become more awake to the world around us and also to the need and means to cultivate such awareness in the students in our classes.

"This training is not just about what to teach, but how to think as an educator."

March 2025: New Courses and Opportunities Coming Soon

AWAKENING FROM THE SILENCE OF AN INNER TIME TO A TIME OF TREMENDOUS CHANGE

March 14th 2025

Yes - SENSRI is still happening -

For the past few years many people have noted that the SENSRI website was not showing new postings. Yes, courses were still continuing to happen at outside venues and occasionally, even in Keene Valley, NY, our home. Yet, each course was very specifically tailored to a group’s request and every opportunity that arose to try and bring a larger more diverse group of people together met with obstacles and an inability to have things come together.

Upon reflection, I have noted that while outer circumstances pressed themselves on all of us during the past 5 years, there was also an opportunity to develop a new level of awareness that was rooted in the individual’s own experience. When we were all required to stay home, that meant for me, there was an opportunity to open to the incredibly living, powerful and subtle landscape of the Adirondacks. I find it interesting that my last major presentation, in November of 2019, was at the Biodynamic Conference which took place in the Adirondack Mountains one hour from my home. At this conference I gave an overview of one approach on how to come to know this particular landscape.

Now, over the last few years, I find there is a newly discovered ability to experience much more than I was able to present at that conference. As if experience is now full of potential for even more life, more details, and more relational knowing than it was 5 years ago. At a certain point in time, it becomes possible for a human being to begin to perceive beyond the actions and activity of the human world. With the right “eyes,” we also begin to see the actual activity of the elemental world at our feet and the higher ways of being that have their own lawfulness above us. To see human potential as the mediator between heaven and earth is to begin to see human existence in a much larger context. The ancient Chinese system expressed a critical relationship between three beings: the lion, the phoenix, and the dragon. When we see these three ways of being and let go of them as simply outer forms, something new awakes within us and a new aspect of human existence begins to unfold.

SENSRI advocates an approach to science that recognizes that no thinking is really happening when we have preconceptions. We recognize that we are only living when we fully engage our own sense activity. We recognize that to arrive at a new understanding is to enter into a new relationship with our surroundings and simultaneously arrive at a new experience as our own being. We cultivate an awareness of life activity both within us and around us as critical for any sense of knowing. We can enter a totally new landscape, or meet a completely new culture or a person who thinks and experiences the world very differently from ourselves, only when we come to know a new way of being around us and within us.

Be clear; there are many “things” said today that are not coming from a living experience but are instead, fixed pictures derived not from the individual speaking themselves, but instead as Da Vinci said, from people who are simply “the reciters and trumpeters of the words of others.”

The activity of science is a way of being, a happening, a verb. It is not a noun, “The Science” to be remembered.

SENSRI is dedicated to developing how the self-world polarity can be more deeply understood, in those individuals who strive to know, through their own perception, through their own activity. Once understood and practiced, this unlocks a living activity upon which the human being can truly know.

Working Through the Conscisouness Soul

Something is happening in the Waldorf movement that deserves attention. When I recall all of the Waldorf Schools I have visited in the past few years, more than half of them are implementing significant changes in how they run, often right down to replacing the administrative head of the school. Many of the schools are trying a model from another school, but if you visit the school whose model they are trying, you find that it is also struggling. It appears that the schools are searching for a manner of running themselves that meets everyone’s needs--teachers, board members, parents, and most importantly, the students—without immediate success. Living Thinking

Michael D'Aleo

This summer while teaching courses in Wilton, New Hampshire at the Center for Anthroposophy’s Waldorf High School Teacher Education Program, I began a conversation with Douglas Gerwin on what is needed for the present time with respect to teacher education. The essence of this conversation is found below: Throughout his life Rudolf Steiner continually emphasized that all of his later work had its roots in what he had attempted to communicate to humanity when he wrote The Philosophy of Freedom..   Continue essay...

SENSRI: A New Science Integrating Humanity and the Environment

Our mission is to promote research, education and the exchange of ideas growing out of a new science based on active human perception. By developing new capacities of sensing and thinking we envision and design creative environmental technologies, in harmony with nature, meeting human needs.

Since 1999 SENSRI has worked as a non-profit research institute in Saratoga Springs, New York, to develop practical solutions to questions of science, technology and the environment by working from a new understanding of human perception and experience. You can read more about our history here, or meet our researchers and board members by clicking here.

On our Research web page you can learn about our current research activities, such as the Living Waters project, or the behavior of artesian springs in Saratoga Springs, or how current explanations of global warming focus so much on a single atmospheric constituent - carbon dioxide - that we ignore important elements of the larger picture.

SENSRI also provides educational courses and science workshops, as well as resources for educators; you can learn more about these on our Education page.

Our work at SENSRI involves learning new ways of perceiving, freeing our selves from fixed or static concepts, and applying new approaches to experiencing our world. In this, we find we have much in common with artists who also seek to free themselves from conventional viewpoints, to see our world in new ways. Here, on our Art and Environment pages, we invite you to experience the perspectives of artists whose work demonstrates new ways of seeing the world.

SENSRI Publications and Newsletters, as well as descriptions of some of our Past Events, can also be found here. Please read on and explore our site to learn about how SENSRI and you can work together to develop new perspectives on our world that will integrate humanity and environment into a seamless, sustainable unity.
